Nigeria's Senior Figures Warn of Deepening Crisis amid Insecurity and Economic Hardship

A group of ten prominent Nigerians released a public statement calling attention to a widening national crisis. The signatories include former INEC chairman Prof. Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, former chief of staff and diplomat Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, senior lawyer Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, political scholar Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, former ActionAid country director Dr. Husseini Abdu, former diplomat Amb. Fatima Balla and four other respected figures.

The statement highlights rising insecurity, inflation, unemployment and a fragile judiciary, noting that public trust in elections and institutions is eroding.
