Nigeria's Super Falcons beat Senegal 2-1 in WAFCON warm‑up
The Nigeria women's national team, the Super Falcons, opened their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations preparations with a 2-1 friendly victory over Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne. Veteran forward Asisat Oshoala scored from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, marking her first appearance since the 2024 WAFCON final, and Toni Payne added a second goal before halftime. Senegal reduced the deficit in the 86th minute through Sokhna Nogaye, but Nigeria held on to secure the win.
The match was the first meeting between the two sides and part of a two‑leg series, with a second friendly scheduled for 8 June at the same venue. The squad featured goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor on her senior debut, and Oshoala wore wristbands bearing the messages “Save the teachers” and “Bring back our children.” The result keeps Nigeria in strong form ahead of the tournament in Morocco, where they will defend their title.
Both teams will use the fixtures to fine‑tune tactics and personnel as they approach the group stage of the Women’s AFCON, set to begin on 26 July.
