Nigeria's Tinubu Administration Pushes Centre‑State Road Projects
President Bola Tinubu’s federal government and state authorities in the South‑East embarked on a coordinated infrastructure drive, highlighted during the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ National Media Tour of legacy projects. In Enugu, a 23‑span, 345‑metre flyover at Eke Obinagu Junction on the Enugu‑Abakaliki Expressway, costing N25.3 billion, is being complemented by a 21.5‑km dual‑carriageway upgrade and five new bridges. The Enugu project spurred Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru to start construction of the Ezillo‑Ezzaegu road, opening four rural communities off the dual carriageway. In Abia, the 50‑km federal Umuahia‑Ohafia road is being strengthened by a new bridge across the Asaga area, replacing the old Omenuko Bridge. The tour also disclosed that President Tinubu approved the concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, marking the first such concession in Nigeria. The coordinated efforts illustrate a strategic partnership between the centre and sub‑national governments aimed at improving road networks, reducing traffic congestion, and fostering regional development.
