President Bola Tinubu flags off $178 bn Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road project

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, officially launched the reconstruction of the 122‑kilometre Kaduna–Birnin Gwari (Mando–Birnin Gwari) road. The federal project, budgeted at about ₦178 billion, is intended to revive a corridor that has been neglected for decades, improve security, reduce travel time and stimulate agricultural and commercial activity across northern and southwestern Nigeria.

The ceremony highlighted Tinubu’s 2022 campaign promise to rebuild the road and restore peace in the region. Minister of Works Senator David Nweze Umahi praised the project as a strategic national asset linking the North‑West to the South‑West and pledged that the upgraded highway will unlock economic potential, create jobs and enhance regional connectivity. Contractor J. Patel & Sons Nigeria Ltd will carry out the works using durable pavement technology. Officials said the improved road will help farmers move produce to markets, lower transport costs and support broader federal infrastructure initiatives.

The flag‑off marks a tangible step in the Tinubu administration’s broader infrastructure drive, aiming to address long‑standing neglect, boost trade corridors and reinforce security in areas previously affected by banditry and kidnappings.
