Nigeria's Tinubu raises cash grant for vulnerable households in Jigawa
154,412 low‑income households in Jigawa State have been enrolled in the federal “Renewed Hope” unconditional cash‑transfer programme. The scheme, covering all 27 local government areas, will deliver three payment cycles of N25,000 each, for a total of N75,000 per household after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu raised the stipend from N10,000 per bi‑monthly cycle.
Distribution is underway; 126,636 beneficiaries have already collected payment cards, with the remaining 27,776 cards to be issued shortly. State Commissioner Auwal Sankara credited Governor Umar Namadi’s support for the smooth rollout and said the grant aims to improve nutrition, support micro‑enterprises such as food vendors and tea sellers, and boost the rural economy.
