Nigeria's Toni Payne ends five‑year goal drought in win over Senegal
Midfielder Toni Payne scored the second goal of Nigeria's 2‑1 friendly victory against Senegal at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne, ending a personal five‑year international goal drought. The strike, set up by a pass from Shukurat Oladipo, came minutes before halftime and gave the defending Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions a morale‑boosting win ahead of the 2026 tournament.
Payne, born in the United States and a former U‑17 international for the U.S., switched allegiance to Nigeria in 2019 and has made 46 appearances for the Super Falcons. The goal marks only her second for the side since her debut in 2021 and is viewed as a confidence boost for coach Justin Madugu as the team prepares for the upcoming WAFCON and a second friendly against Senegal on June 8.
