Nigeria's TracTrac launches youth mechanisation training for 36,000

TracTrac Mechanisation Service Ltd, a Nigerian‑led agricultural technology firm, announced the “Young People in Mechanisation” (YPiM) programme at a news conference in Abuja. The initiative will train 36,000 Nigerians aged 18 to 35 across all 36 states, providing practical tractor‑operation skills, mentorship, and support for entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership and advocacy. CEO Godson Ohuruogu said the programme is designed to close the sector’s manpower gap and boost food security.

Since its inception, TracTrac has deployed about 800 tractors, reached over 500,000 smallholder farmers and built a network of more than 6,000 mechanisation service providers. Its flagship digital platform, TracTrac Plus, has recorded over 5,000 app installations and facilitated more than 2,000 mechanisation service engagements. The company is also partnering with the government on a draft National Agricultural Mechanisation Policy and a local tractor assembly plant to meet an estimated need for 250,000 tractors nationwide.
