Nigeria's Youth Confront Voter Apathy and Career Advice Ahead of 2027 Elections

Blessing Oyefeso, president of Nigeria Youths in Politics, warned that voter apathy among young Nigerians is a major threat to the country's democracy. In an interview, he linked low turnout to distrust in the electoral system and a belief that votes do not count, calling for renewed confidence, grassroots mobilisation and the introduction of a youth quota in parliament before the 2027 general elections.

Retired Major‑General Johnson Olawumi, former head of the National Youth Service Corps, urged young Nigerians to build solid professional careers before entering politics. Speaking at a rally in Osogbo, he said reliance on politics for livelihood makes individuals vulnerable to manipulation and reduces their ability to serve with integrity. Olawumi stressed that politics should complement, not replace, personal development and that a strong career ensures stability after public office.
