Nikaia apartment fire leads to building evacuation and rescues

A fire broke out early in the morning in a second-floor apartment on Fleming Avenue in Nikaia, Greece. The blaze, which is believed to have started from a mattress possibly ignited by a cigarette, spread quickly through the apartment, producing thick smoke that filled the building.

Firefighting teams, including 15 personnel and five vehicles, responded to the scene and conducted an evacuation of the apartment building to protect other residents. During the operation, firefighters rescued several people, including families with small children and individuals with health issues. Two elderly residents were specifically trapped in their apartment and required assistance to be removed.

One elderly individual was treated by EKAV paramedics and transported to a hospital for precautionary reasons due to respiratory difficulties caused by smoke inhalation. The fire was eventually brought under control, and authorities continued to inspect the building to ensure no one remained trapped.
