Residential apartment fires in Greece and Cyprus

Overview

In early October 2026, a fire occurred in a second-floor apartment on Fleming Avenue in Nikaia, Greece. The blaze, suspected to have started from a mattress possibly ignited by a cigarette, caused thick smoke to fill the building. Firefighting teams evacuated the building and rescued several people, including families with children and elderly residents. One elderly individual was hospitalized for respiratory difficulties due to smoke inhalation.

On October 14, 2026, another apartment fire was reported in Latsia, Nicosia district, Cyprus. The fire originated from a cooking utensil and spread to kitchen equipment and wooden paneling. Firefighters assisted one resident in evacuating the building and brought the fire under control within approximately 23 minutes of the initial call.
