Niketu Iralu, prominent Naga peace activist, passes away

Renowned Naga peace activist, thinker, and social worker Niketu Iralu has passed away at the age of 89 (or 91, per some reports) following a cardiac arrest at BLK Hospital in Delhi.

Iralu was a prominent figure in the North East India peace movement, known for his lifelong commitment to reconciliation, dialogue, and trust-building. He was deeply associated with the Moral Re-Armament movement, later known as Initiatives of Change, with which he worked for approximately 65 years both in India and internationally. His work focused on personal transformation as a foundation for social and political peace.

Various Naga organizations, including the Naga Hoho and the Global Naga Forum, have expressed profound loss, describing him as a “towering moral voice” and a “rare voice of conscience.” He was noted for his ability to bridge divisions among Naga tribes and his advocacy for finding peaceful relationships between the Naga people and India.

A funeral service is scheduled to take place at Shalom Bible Seminary in Sechu (Zubza).
