Niketu Iralu, veteran Naga peace activist, dies at 91
Veteran Naga peace activist Dr. Niketu Iralu has passed away in New Delhi at the age of 91. His death has drawn tributes from various leaders and organizations, including Th. Muivah of the NSCN/GPRN and the Naga Peoples’ Initiative for Peace (NPIP).
Dr. Iralu was a prominent figure in the Naga reconciliation process, serving as chairman of the seven-member Naga National Reconciliation Commission in 2004. He was also a signatory to the 2002 Second Naga Consultative Meeting in Bangkok, which aimed to strengthen the Indo-Naga peace talks.
Throughout his career, which spanned over sixty-five years, Dr. Iralu worked through the Initiatives of Change (formerly Moral Re-Armament movement) to promote peace-building and trust across various communities. He was noted for his belief that lasting peace requires personal and community transformation alongside political settlements.
