Armenia celebrates 35th anniversary of independence

Armenia is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its independence, marking the restoration of statehood following the 1991 referendum. The anniversary is characterized by official ceremonies, national festivities, and messages from political and religious leaders regarding sovereignty, national identity, and the country's future.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan emphasized the importance of maintaining a realistic assessment of the state's capabilities and warned against losing a sense of reality. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the nation from Republic Square, noting that while the country celebrates in an environment of peace, this peace was achieved through significant sacrifice. Religious leader Karekin II also issued a message calling for national unity to face internal and external challenges.

Festivities include large-scale cultural programs, such as symphonic concerts and historical reenactments, with significant government funding allocated for national celebrations. Internationally, the anniversary has drawn congratulatory messages from leaders in China, Russia, and Kazakhstan. Additionally, the Armenian flag has been displayed on public buildings in various locations, including parts of Greece, to honor the occasion.
