Nikola Tsolov identified as top F1 prospect despite timing concerns

F1 TV commentator Alex James has identified Nikola Tsolov as one of five young drivers with a significant chance of reaching Formula 1 in the near future. Currently leading the Formula 2 general classification, Tsolov has secured six victories in the first nine rounds of the season, including wins in Melbourne, Monaco, Red Bull Ring, and Silverstone.

Despite his strong performance and ability to adapt to high-power machinery, James notes that timing may hinder Tsolov's promotion. The recent appointment of Guen Lagrue—formerly of Mercedes' driver development program—at Red Bull could lead to a period of stability within the Racing Bulls roster. This might result in the current lineup of Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson remaining unchanged for 2027, potentially leaving Tsolov in a reserve driver role instead of a full-time promotion.
