Tsolov retains F2 lead after challenging Madrid weekend
Overview
Nikola Tsolov has maintained his Formula 2 championship lead following a difficult weekend at the new Madrid Ring street circuit. After showing strength in practice, Tsolov’s momentum was interrupted during the Madrid sprint race. After qualifying fifth, the Campos Racing driver became embroiled in a battle for fourth place with teammate Noel Leon. On the 15th lap, Tsolov lost control and hit a barrier with his rear left tire, forcing a retirement. Rito Miyahata secured his first victory of the season in that race.
The championship battle intensified during the main Madrid Grand Prix. Tsolov struggled through the race, facing challenges with hard tire strategy and front wing damage sustained after contact with championship rival Rafael Camara. Tsolov ultimately finished in 18th place, failing to score points.
Camara finished 10th after receiving a 10-second penalty, which helped him narrow the points gap. Tsolov remains the championship leader with 177 points, while Camara follows with 170 points. The title race is expected to be decided in Baku.
