Nikola Tsolov retains Formula 2 championship lead after Monza weekend

Nikola Tsolov maintains his lead in the Formula 2 championship following a challenging race weekend at the Monza Grand Prix in Italy. Despite facing a three-position penalty in both the sprint and main races due to a FIA ruling regarding low-speed tire warming on the racing line, the Bulgarian driver from Campos Racing secured valuable points.

In the sprint race, Tsolov finished fifth, earning four points and extending his championship lead to 24 points over rivals Raphael Camara and Gabriele Mini. The main race saw Tsolov finish in seventh place, earning an additional six points. This brings his total to 177 points, while Camara follows in second place with 166 points.

The weekend was marked by significant action, including a safety car period following a heavy crash by Colton Herta. Joshua Dürksen of Invicta Racing dominated the weekend, securing victories in both the sprint and the main race. The championship battle remains tight as the series prepares to move to Madrid, Spain, for the next round.
