Nikola Tsolov Keeps F2 Lead After Hungarian Grand Prix Weekend

Bulgarian driver Nikola Tsolov remained atop the 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship after a challenging weekend at the Hungaroring. A collision with Sebastian Montoya in the sprint race triggered a 10‑place grid penalty for the feature race, forcing Tsolov to start 12th. He recovered to finish seventh, adding six points to his tally and extending his lead to 167 points.

Tsolov now enjoys a 20‑point advantage over Gabriele Mini and a 22‑point margin over Rafael Camara. Noel Leon claimed victory in the feature race, with Kush Maini finishing second and Camara third. Despite the setback, Tsolov said the experience was a learning opportunity and he will aim to improve qualifying performance for the remaining rounds in Monza, Madrid and the season‑closing events in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

The Hungarian round marked the first time Tsolov finished a weekend without a podium since the Canadian race in May, but his consistent points‑scoring kept him firmly in championship contention.
