Nikola Tsolov retires from Formula 2 sprint race in Madrid

Nikola Tsolov, the leader of the Formula 2 championship, failed to finish the sprint race at the new Madrid Ring street circuit in Spain. After qualifying fifth, the Bulgarian driver for Campos Racing was involved in an intense battle for fourth place with his teammate, Noel Leon.

During the 15th lap of the 23-lap race, Tsolov lost control of his car and hit a barrier with his rear left tire, resulting in a retirement. The incident occurred following a period of high tension on the radio as Tsolov sought assistance from his team to overtake Leon.

Japanese driver Rito Miyahata won the sprint race, marking his first victory of the season. Emerson Fittipaldi Jr. finished second, and Lawrence van Hoepen took third. Tsolov remains the championship leader with 177 points, though his main rival, Rafael Camara, has closed the gap to 169 points following the race.
