Nikon announces new cinema lens series and ZR firmware updates
Nikon has announced the development of the Nikkor Z Cinema T1. 9 VV series, a collection of nine new cinema lenses designed for high-end production. The series will include the Nikkor Z Cinema 50mm T1. 9 VV and is notable for being the first Nikkor lens line with an image circle large enough to cover the RED V-Raptor [X] VV sensor. These lenses will also feature a highly precise autofocus mechanism to assist professional workflows.
In addition to the lens announcement, Nikon confirmed that firmware version 2. 00 for the Nikon ZR camera is expected before the end of 2026. This update will introduce support for Log3G10 and REDWideGamutRGB when recording in the H. 265 codec, allowing for smaller file sizes with high color-grading latitude. The firmware will also add selectable High ISO noise reduction levels for H. 265 Log recording and enable focus peaking when recording in R3D NE format.
