The finalists for the 2026 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards have been announced, featuring a record-breaking 10,000 submissions from 112 countries. The competition, which uses humor to promote wildlife conservation, has selected 47 images and nine videos for its shortlist.

Notable entries include a brown bear in Alaska appearing to perform morning exercises, a red squirrel in Germany, and a white-tailed eagle in Finland. Other highlighted moments include a praying mantis in Peru, a mountain scops owl in China, and spadefish in the Philippines reacting to a whale shark.

Co-founder Tom Sullam stated that the competition aims to use humor to foster empathy toward wildlife, which can lead to positive behavioral changes. Voting is currently open for the Sterna People’s Choice Award, and the final winners will be announced in London on December 8.
