Nikon Comedy Wildlife photography awards 2026

Overview

The 2026 Nikon Comedy Wildlife photography awards have announced their finalists, selected from over 10,000 submissions across 112 countries.

Initial reports highlighted specific entries such as a photograph titled ‘Are You Kidding Me?’ by Kevin Lohman, which depicts a squirrel in Santa Cruz, California, interacting with a Great Horned Owl fledgling. Other notable finalists included a giraffe, a damselfly, and a blenny fish.

Subsequent details expanded on the diverse range of entries, including a brown bear in Alaska, a red squirrel in Germany, a white-tailed eagle in Finland, a praying mantis in Peru, and a mountain scops owl in China.

The shortlist now officially consists of 47 images and nine videos. New highlights include spadefish in the Philippines reacting to a whale shark and a brown bear in Alaska appearing to perform morning exercises. Co-founder Tom Sullam noted that the competition aims to use humor to foster empathy toward wildlife, which can lead to positive behavioral changes.

Voting is currently open for the Sterna People’s Choice Award, and the final winners are scheduled to be announced in London on December 8.
