Nikon Comedy Wildlife photography awards announce 2026 finalists

The 2026 Nikon Comedy Wildlife photography competition has announced its finalists, selected from more than 10,000 submissions originating from 112 countries.

Among the finalists is a photograph titled ‘Are You Kidding Me?’ by California photographer Kevin Lohman. Captured in Santa Cruz, the image depicts a squirrel launching an apparent air attack on a seven-week-old Great Horned Owl fledgling. Lohman noted that the squirrel repeated the behavior three times during the morning, seemingly attempting to drive the potential predator away from a nearby nest.

Other notable finalists include images of a giraffe appearing to wear an acacia tree, a damselfly appearing to wave from behind a leaf, and a blenny fish in Curaçao. The winners of the competition are scheduled to be announced on December 8.
