Nikos Kalogeropoulos: Political funeral held in Athens

A political funeral was held at the First Cemetery of Athens for Nikos Kalogeropoulos, a prominent Greek actor, director, screenwriter, poet, and songwriter, who passed away at age 74 after a battle with cancer.

Colleagues and friends from the Greek arts community, including Apostolos Gletsos, Vana Barbara, and Giorgos Vogiatzis, attended the ceremony. The event was marked by emotional tributes, including a performance of the song ‘Karaiskakis’ by Panos Vlachos, a piece originally written by Kalogeropoulos.

Per the family's request, attendees were asked to forgo floral wreaths and instead make financial donations to ‘The Actor’s House’ (To Spiti tou Ithrou) to support professionals in the arts. Kalogeropoulos was widely recognized for his significant contributions to Greek cinema and television during the 1980s and 1990s, with notable works including ‘Lufa kai Parallagi’ and ‘Mathé paidí mou grammata’.
