Nikos Kalogeropoulos, a prominent Greek actor, director, screenwriter, poet, and songwriter, died on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the age of 74 following a battle with cancer.

Born in Filia-tra, Messinia, in 1952, Kalogeropoulos was a multifaceted creator who made significant contributions to Greek theater, cinema, and songwriting. His cinematic career earned him multiple accolades at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, including a Best Supporting Actor award for ‘Mathe Paidi Mou Grammata’ (1981) and a Best Actor award for his role as Giannis Papadopoulos in ‘Lufa kai Parallagi’ (1984). He also wrote and directed the 2011 film ‘Oi Ippeis tis Pylou’.

Following his passing, media personality Gregory Arnaoutoglou shared a tribute on social media. The Greek public broadcaster, ERT, honored his legacy via its digital platform, ERTFLIX, featuring his iconic works such as the 1989 comedy series ‘Sto Camping’.

On Tuesday, August 11, a political funeral was held at the First Cemetery of Athens in accordance with his wishes. The ceremony was attended by numerous figures from the Greek artistic community, including Vana Barbara, Apostolos Gletsos, Spyros Bibilas, and Giorgos Vogiatzis. The event included an emotional performance of the song ‘Karaiskakis’ by Panos Vlachos, a piece originally written by Kalogeropoulos. In lieu of wreaths, his family requested that those wishing to honor his memory make financial donations to ‘The Actor’s House’ (To Spiti tou Ithrou) to support professionals in the arts.
