Nilüfer mayor Şadi Özdemir vows to block waste plant and boost sustainable tourism
Nilüfer district mayor Şadi Özdemir met residents of Kayapa neighbourhood, urging a joint campaign against a proposed solid‑waste treatment plant. He highlighted the area's water sources, farmland and natural landscape, stating that "Bursa’s beautiful regions must not be left with garbage leaks" and pledged to work with trade unions, NGOs and local chambers to oppose the project.
He also announced that the Kayapa Square redevelopment will go to tender on 30 June and outlined broader district plans: preserving agricultural land, limiting new industrial zones, and developing a tourism corridor linking Fadıllı, Akçalar, Gölyazı and Ayvaköy. Projects include converting an ancient amphitheatre in Gölyazı into a concert venue, building a floating pier, establishing an aviation‑and‑nature sports centre in Fadıllı, and creating a "digital village" for remote workers in Ayvaköy. Özdemir cited the Dutch cooperative model as a template for strengthening local farming incomes.
