Nine Entertainment extends Premier League rights in Australia

Nine Entertainment has extended its exclusive Australian broadcasting rights for the English Premier League through the end of the 2033/34 season. The new agreement ensures that Stan Sport will continue to provide live coverage of all 380 matches per season for an additional six years following the expiration of the current deal.

While Nine did not officially disclose the financial terms, reports suggest the extension is valued at approximately US$600 million (roughly $860 million AUD). The deal is expected to begin with an annual cost similar to the final year of the current agreement, estimated at $120 million, with subsequent annual increases of 3 percent.

Nine CEO Matt Stanton described the Premier League as a “game-changer” for the company’s streaming business, noting that the rights have been a primary driver for growth in Stan Sport subscriptions. The company also indicated plans to potentially increase free-to-air coverage and utilize its outdoor media assets to promote the league.
