Nine Entertainment strategic media pivot
Overview
Nine Entertainment has implemented a strategic restructuring to pivot from traditional television broadcasting toward streaming, digital publishing, and outdoor media. Following the acquisition of QMS and the sale of Domain, the company reorganized into three divisions. Chief Executive Matt Stanton indicated that free-to-air television would account for less than 25 per cent of revenue and EBITDA, with 70 per cent of earnings expected to come from streaming, digital, and outdoor sectors in the upcoming fiscal year.
Financial reports for the 2025/26 period showed a consolidated net profit of $510.6 million, an increase from $133.3 million the previous year. While television earnings declined by 18.5 per cent, revenue for the Stan streaming service rose by 20.3 per cent.
In support of its streaming growth, Nine Entertainment extended its exclusive Australian broadcasting rights for the English Premier League through the 2033/34 season. This agreement ensures Stan Sport will provide live coverage of all 380 matches per season for an additional six years. Stanton described the Premier League as a “game-changer” for the company’s streaming business and a primary driver for Stan Sport subscriptions.
