Vietnam floods and landslides cause fatalities and widespread damage

flooding landslides natural disaster infrastructure damage weather emergency

Heavy rainfall across northern and central Vietnam has triggered widespread flooding and landslides, resulting in at least three deaths in Phu Tho province. Thousands of homes have been inundated, with significant flooding reported in Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Hanoi. In Ninh Binh, over 2,000 homes are underwater, while Thanh Hoa and Hanoi report thousands of flooded residences.

Infrastructure has been severely impacted. Landslides have blocked major routes, including Provincial Road 316E and National Highway 28B at Dai Ninh Pass. In Lam Dong, the Suoi Cat concrete bridge collapsed following a flash flood, affecting eight households. Additionally, Prenn Pass has experienced eight landslides since June 2026 due to saturated soil and complex terrain.

Agricultural and livestock sectors face heavy losses, with over 23,000 hectares of crops submerged and hundreds of livestock animals swept away. Authorities in Thanh Hoa have initiated disinfection and hygiene protocols to prevent disease outbreaks in livestock following the receding waters. Emergency response teams continue to manage road closures, evacuations, and dike reinforcements to mitigate further damage.
