Nintendo Aligns New Game Development with Film Projects, Says Miyamoto

Shigerer Miyamoto explained that Nintendo’s upcoming software lineup is being shaped by its recent film projects. The studio said the Super Mario Galaxy movie prompted the revival of the Yoshi and Star Fox franchises, leading to the development of a new Yoshi title, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, scheduled for release on May 21 2026 for the Switch 2.

Miyamoto added that discussions about movie story elements also influence other games, citing a planned Star Fox project that received a green light because the film includes the character. He noted that the 3D Donkey Kong game and an Ocarina of Time remake are also linked to Nintendo’s cinematic efforts. The interview highlighted Nintendo’s strategy of treating its movies as a catalyst for first‑party game development, reinforcing a transmedia approach across its major IPs.
