Nintendo Switch 2 receives major 23.0.0 update and new game reveals
Nintendo has released system update version 23.0.0 for the Nintendo Switch 2, introducing several major technical and quality-of-life features. A primary addition is support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) in docked TV mode, which helps smooth out gameplay during frame rate fluctuations, provided the TV and dock are also compatible. The update also enables full data transfers between two Switch 2 consoles, including save data and screenshots, and introduces new GameChat features such as viewing previous chats and adjusting screen size.
Other system improvements include Mii Maker background music options, QR code sharing for Miis, and a handheld mode boost quick setting. The update also addresses virtual game card management and provides enhanced accessibility options, such as Brazilian Portuguese support for text-to-speech functions.
In addition to system updates, Nintendo announced several upcoming titles during recent Direct presentations. Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy is scheduled for release on November 12, 2026, featuring voice commands for the companion Oatchi and a new timed challenge mode. Furthermore, a faithful remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is set to launch on November 5, 2026, incorporating modern controls, improved visuals, and microphone support for playing melodies.
