Nintendo Switch 2 software and hardware updates

Overview

Nintendo continues to expand its Switch 2 ecosystem through firmware improvements and major software releases. In Japan, Famitsu estimates indicate the console has reached over 6.29 million units sold.

On the software front, ‘Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave’ remains a significant title, recently debuting in second place on the UK software charts. Additionally, a highly anticipated remake of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ is now available for pre-order on Amazon, accompanied by a special 40th-anniversary console bundle. Hazelight Studios and Electronic Arts have also released the first trailer for ‘It Takes Two’, which is scheduled for release on October 15, 2026. This title will include a free upgrade for existing Nintendo Switch owners and support online cross-play across multiple platforms.

Nintendo is actively refining backward compatibility via system updates. While these updates have resolved technical issues for original Switch titles like ‘Attack on Titan 2’ and ‘Terraformers’—and introduced Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for docked mode—some titles, including ‘Rain World’ and ‘Slay the Princess’, continue to experience progress-related bugs.

Regarding hardware performance, users have reported significant variations in battery consumption when playing different high-fidelity titles. To address performance, the Switch 2 is implementing AMD FSR Frame Generation to boost frame rates for titles such as ‘Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen’ and ‘Stellar Blade’. However, using this technology to target 60fps may deviate from official recommendations, potentially increasing risks of ghosting and input latency.
