Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy Resonance HD‑2D RPG

Square Enix revealed a new entry in the Final Fantasy series during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct. Titled *Final Fantasy Resonance*, it is the franchise’s first game to use the HD‑2D visual style popularized by titles such as Octopath Traveler.

The game adapts the opening story arc of the now‑defunct mobile title *Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius*, reworking it into a full‑featured, turn‑based console RPG. Players will encounter familiar series elements—including Chocobos, airships, and classic summons—and see cameo appearances from Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light.

*Final Fantasy Resonance* is slated for worldwide release on 22 October 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix announced multiple editions, including a standard version, a Digital Deluxe edition with extra in‑game items, and a Collector’s edition featuring an artbook, soundtrack and a promotional trading‑card game card.
