Nio Firefly launches 60-kWh battery for extended range
Nio's small electric vehicle brand, Firefly, has introduced a new 60-kWh battery pack designed to extend the driving range of its compact city car. The new battery, produced by CATL using ternary lithium chemistry, increases the CLTC-rated range to 560 km, a 33% improvement over the previous 42-kWh standard pack.
New customers can select the larger battery at the time of order. Existing owners who purchased their vehicles outright can opt for a permanent upgrade for 17,000 yuan ($2,530). For those on the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan, a permanent upgrade costs a 3,000 yuan service fee, with subsequent monthly rental fees increasing from 399 yuan to 599 yuan.
The upgrade is designed to maintain the same dimensions and mounting points as the original battery, allowing for seamless installation via battery swaps. While the update is currently focused on the Chinese market, the Firefly model is also sold in parts of Europe, though specific details regarding the availability of this larger battery in those regions have not been confirmed.
