Nio Firefly battery capacity expansion
Overview
Nio’s compact electric vehicle brand, Firefly, has introduced a new 60-kWh battery pack to extend vehicle driving range. The new module, produced by CATL, utilizes ternary lithium chemistry to increase the CLTC-rated range to 560 km, representing a significant improvement over the previous 42-kWh standard pack.
To accommodate the upgrade, the new battery maintains the same dimensions and mounting points as the original, allowing for seamless installation through Nio’s battery swapping network. In the Chinese market, the Firefly equipped with this 60-kWh battery starts at 136,800 yuan.
Existing owners have several upgrade options. Those who purchased their vehicles outright can opt for a permanent upgrade for approximately 17,000 yuan. For customers utilizing the Battery as a Service (BaaS) plan, a permanent upgrade involves a 3,000 yuan service fee, with subsequent monthly rental fees increasing from 399 yuan to 599 yuan.
