Nio Firefly introduces 60 kWh battery for increased range

Nio's compact electric vehicle brand, Firefly, has announced a new 60 kWh high-capacity battery option designed to increase vehicle range. Utilizing CATL's Qilin battery technology with nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) chemistry, the new module extends the driving range from 420 km to 560 km under the CLTC testing standard.

Because battery specifications were standardized during the vehicle's development, existing owners can upgrade their range through Nio's battery swapping network without purchasing a new car. The new battery maintains the same dimensions and weight as the previous 42 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) version.

In China, the Firefly equipped with the 60 kWh battery starts at 136,800 yuan. For those who already own their battery, the upgrade cost is approximately 17,000 yuan, while Battery as a Service (BaaS) subscribers can opt for a swap for a fee of 3,000 yuan plus a monthly subscription.
