Nio reaches 120 million battery swaps with launch of 4,000th station

On August 7, Nio Inc. announced that its cumulative battery‑swap services passed 120 million, a milestone reached just six months after the 100 million mark. The same day the company opened its 4,000th swap station in Quanzhou, Fujian, which is also the first fifth‑generation station. The new design shortens swap time to 1 minute 48 seconds, accommodates multiple battery sizes and includes a 500 kW fast‑charge unit, allowing the three brands Nio, Onvo and Firefly to share a single swap bay.

Nio now operates 4,006 swap stations across China, including 1,049 highway stations that connect 550 cities. About 80 % of users have at least one station within three kilometres of home or work. The company reports that swaps have saved users 99.91 million hours of waiting and roughly 31.2 billion yuan in fuel‑cost equivalents. Founder, chairman and CEO William Li attended a ceremony in Quanzhou to mark the launch, and the first batch of fifth‑generation stations has also been commissioned in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Suzhou, Hefei and other major cities.
