Nio launches fifth-generation battery swapping stations

Nio has launched its fifth-generation battery swapping stations, marking a significant expansion of its energy infrastructure. The new stations, which debuted in seven Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai, feature an internally developed platform capable of real-time configuration to accommodate various vehicle types and axle widths up to 3.5 meters.

This technological advancement allows Nio to integrate its new, smaller vehicle brand, Firefly, into its existing swapping network. While battery swapping for Nio and Onvo models now takes approximately 1 minute and 48 seconds, the process for Firefly models is estimated to take between 3 and 3.5 minutes. The company recently reached a milestone of 4,000 swapping stations in China.

Additionally, Nio CEO William Li confirmed that the company is continuing development on a high-capacity 120 kWh battery pack. Unlike previous iterations that faced delays, this new battery is intended to maintain standard dimensions to ensure compatibility across all Nio models, rather than being exclusive to premium or larger vehicles.
