Nirmala Sitharaman pitches India’s economic growth to investors in New York
Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed a high-level business roundtable in New York, organized by the Consulate General of India and Bank of America, to pitch India’s economic growth and reform-led stability to global investors. She highlighted that India recorded a 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, maintaining its position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy despite global disruptions.
Sitharaman emphasized the government’s focus on creating capital assets and supporting industry through infrastructure development, specifically in the aviation sector. Key policy drivers include fostering a conducive investment climate, promoting artificial intelligence and data centers, supporting Global Capability Centres, and ensuring credit availability for MSMEs. She also noted that reforms like the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code have provided greater regulatory certainty and reduced administrative paperwork.
During separate discussions with global CEOs, including leadership from Tillman Holdings and Marsh Re, the Finance Minister highlighted opportunities in digital infrastructure, cloud computing, and enterprise technology. She reiterated India’s commitment to fiscal prudence and discipline as part of the broader vision to achieve a developed India by 2047.
