Overview

In mid-August, Sitharaman traveled to Jaipur for BRICS meetings, followed by the PSB Confluence in New Delhi. By late August, her focus shifted to a nine-day tour of Canada and the United States to strengthen economic ties, including the inaugural Canada-India Finance Ministers’ Economic and Financial Dialogue and meetings with business leaders in Chicago. On August 31, Sitharaman arrived in South Carolina to lead the Indian delegation to the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. During the summit, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned of risks to global growth, including rising public debt, energy shocks, and stalled disinflation processes. Following the G20 summit, Sitharaman addressed a high-level business roundtable in New York, pitching India’s economic stability and highlighting a 7.8% GDP growth in Q1 of FY 2026-27. In early September, Sitharaman reviewed priorities for the BRICS Finance Track ahead of a high-level meeting in Mumbai scheduled for September 9-10. Under India’s chairship, the meeting operates under the theme of ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’ to deepen financial cooperation and attract private investment.
