Nissa Rugby denied Pro D2 promotion, faces relegation to Nationale

The disciplinary council of the French rugby league (LNR) and its financial regulator A2R rejected Nissa Rugby's application to join Pro D2, the second tier, after the club earned promotion on the field by beating Mont‑de‑Marsan 31‑26. The decision was announced via video conference and gives the club 15 days to appeal.

The rejection stems from insufficient financial guarantees. The club needed €4.6 million in secured funding; the dossier presented lacked €2.1 million, and the municipality of Nice, led by mayor Éric Ciotti, declined to fund the shortfall. Club presidents Jean‑Baptiste Aldigé and Patrice Prévot had recently resigned. If the appeal fails, Nice will be placed in the third‑tier Nationale, while Mont‑de‑Marsan could retain its Pro D2 spot.
