Nissa Rugby's financial appeal as mayor Eric Ciotti caps municipal aid

Nissa Rugby, newly promoted to France's Pro D2, must present the financial guarantees required by the Rugby Regulatory Authority (A2R) to retain its place. After failing to meet the required guarantees, the club was administratively relegated and an appeal is scheduled for 4–5 August.

Mayor Eric Ciotti said the City of Nice has already contributed €3.5 million in subsidies and infrastructure funding and cannot increase its support. The club still needs roughly €2 million to satisfy the authority. Players have issued an open letter warning that a loss of the licence could leave them without contracts, jobs, or a sporting project, affecting staff, volunteers and families. The municipality proposes a total public backing of about €4.5 million for the current season, hoping the appeal will secure the club's stay in Pro D2.
