Nissan Elgrand features third-generation e-POWER technology
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is seeing a resurgence in momentum with the development of the new Elgrand luxury minivan. The vehicle features the third-generation e-POWER system, a series hybrid powertrain that uses a 1.5L engine solely for power generation to drive an electric motor.
This updated powertrain has achieved significant improvements over previous generations, including a 15% increase in fuel efficiency and a 5.6dB reduction in cabin noise. The integration of the motor, inverter, generator, and reduction gear has resulted in a more compact, lightweight, and quieter driving experience. Additionally, the Elgrand offers a tax advantage in Japan; its 1.5L engine results in an annual automobile tax of 30,500 yen, which is over 10,000 yen cheaper than competitors with 2.5L engines.
Beyond efficiency, the Elgrand emphasizes driving dynamics through the e-4ORCE electric four-wheel control system and variable dampers. These features aim to provide handling characteristics typically unexpected in a luxury minivan, complemented by Nissan’s signature e-Pedal technology for smoother deceleration and control.
