Nissan launches second‑gen Kicks hybrid SUV in Japan

Nissan introduced the second‑generation Kicks in Japan on 18 June 2024, equipping it with the third‑generation e‑Power hybrid system. The powertrain pairs a 1.4‑liter four‑cylinder engine that acts as a generator with a 143‑horsepower electric motor, delivering fuel consumption of about 20 km per litre (≈3.9 L/100 km). A four‑wheel‑drive version, e‑4ORCE, adds a rear‑axle motor of 68 hp for enhanced traction.

The base model is priced at ¥2,999,700 (≈US$18,700), while the off‑road‑styled Rock Creek variant – featuring a three‑slot grille, red stitching and rugged wheel arches – is expected to start around ¥4 million. All trims include dual 12.3‑inch screens, ProPILOT driver assistance, 360° safety assist and a revised suspension. Nissan also highlighted that the Kicks sold in the United States and Brazil uses different engines, underscoring the uniqueness of the Japanese launch.

The new Kicks joins Nissan’s global compact‑SUV lineup and will be followed by a hybrid‑powered Rogue planned for release next year.
