Niterói expands citywide educational tours, reaching over 15,000 municipal students

The Municipality of Niterói has continued its "Circuito da Cidade" programme, a citywide educational initiative run by the Municipal Secretariat of Education in partnership with Neltur. Using specially branded buses, more than 15,000 municipal students from early childhood to elementary levels have visited cultural, historic and natural sites including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Campo de São Bento, Solar do Jambeiro, Horto do Fonseca, Fortaleza de Santa Cruz da Barra, Ilha da Boa Viagem, Parque Orla de Piratininga Alfredo Sirkis and Theatro Municipal João Caetano.

Since its launch, the programme has completed 350 trips, providing students with direct exposure to the city's landmarks and fostering a sense of belonging. Secretary of Education Bira Marques said, "Each pedagogical outing is an opportunity to turn the city into a discovery environment, helping students understand that public spaces belong to them as well."

Organisers say the tours enrich learning, encourage families to explore the city, and aim to develop citizens who value Niterói’s cultural heritage from an early age.
