NLSIU schedules 34th convocation for October 17

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru has scheduled its 34th Annual Convocation for October 17. This follows the previous cancellation of the ceremony, which was originally set for September 12 due to what the university termed “unavoidable circumstances.”

The cancellation stemmed from significant opposition from over 700 current and former students regarding the potential attendance of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra. While students had previously reached a tentative agreement to attend if the CJI was present without protest, the ceremony was called off after a disagreement arose regarding a requirement for students to issue a public statement inviting the CJI.

The new date was approved during recent meetings of the university's Executive and General Councils. Graduating students may choose to receive their degrees either in person or in absentia by completing a required form. It remains unclear whether the CJI will attend the rescheduled event.
