Nnamdi Kanu calls for referendum on Nigeria's unity

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has asserted that the decision regarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity should be determined by the people through a referendum rather than by the federal government or the military.

Kanu’s family has expressed concern over the Nigerian government’s perceived unwillingness to proceed with legal matters. They noted that Kanu has requested the immediate listing and hearing of two pending cases—one before the Supreme Court challenging a previous judgment and another before the Court of Appeal contesting his life sentence. The family has threatened to notify international bodies, including the United States Congress and the Israeli Knesset, regarding the delays in these judicial proceedings.

Additionally, IPOB has issued a clarification regarding Kanu’s stance on the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe. The group stated that Kanu did not threaten or insult the monarch following the formation of the Onitsha Ado Security Outfit, but rather advised the monarch to ensure the group is not used by authorities to target the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
