IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu formally dismisses lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor

Detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu issued a written notice on July 22, 2026 from Sokoto Correctional Centre formally terminating the services of his long‑time personal lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor. The letter revoked all authority for Ejiofor to speak, act, or represent Kanu, his family, or IPOB in any forum and warned that any breach of client confidentiality could lead to disciplinary proceedings.

IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful later reiterated the dismissal, calling claims of Ejiofor’s reinstatement a “worthless piece of paper” signed by expelled members. The group affirmed that Kanu alone holds the exclusive power to appoint or dismiss legal representatives and that Ejiofor has no standing to act for IPOB.
