Nnamdi Kanu’s Family Refuses Prison Relocation Without Court Order

The family of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu announced that he will not accept a transfer from the Sokoto Custodial Centre to Abuja unless a court order authorises it. The statement, issued by Prince Emmanuel Kanu, stresses that the location of Kanu’s life‑sentence in Sokoto is a central ground for his pending appeal before the Court of Appeal, alleging bias and a violation of his constitutional rights.

Separately, Christopher Chidera of the International Consortium of Lawyers for Nnamdi Kanu accused Kanu’s lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor and senior advocate Mike Ozekhome, of professional negligence. He claims they failed to challenge a 2022 “stay of execution” application, allowing the federal government to keep Kanu in detention despite a prior appellate discharge, thereby extending his imprisonment for 14 months without fresh charges.
