NNPC Ltd. gas reserves LNG export energy security Gas Master Plan

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) is working to transform Nigeria into a global gas hub by leveraging its proven reserves of over 215 trillion cubic feet (tcf). Speaking at the GASTECH conference in Bangkok, Olalekan Ogunleye, NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Vice President of Gas, Power & New Energy, detailed the company’s Gas Master Plan (GMP).

The GMP aims to increase Nigeria’s reserves from 215tcf to over 600tcf. The company has set production targets to reach 10 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) by 2027 and 12 Bcf/d by 2030. This strategy is supported by the Petroleum Industry Act and the Decade of Gas Framework.

Nigeria currently utilizes LNG projects, including Trains 1-6, which produce 22 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The company is also working toward the completion of Train 7 in 2027 to further expand its capacity to supply Atlantic Basin and Asian markets.
