No to Execution Tuesdays campaign expands to 60 Iranian prisons

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has entered its 134th week, expanding its reach to 60 prisons across Iran. The movement now includes Gachsaran Prison, where prisoners have issued statements of solidarity and participated in a coordinated hunger strike.

Human rights advocates report a significant increase in capital punishment, noting that at least 39 political executions have occurred since the beginning of the Iranian year 1405. Recent executions include Shahram Sadeghi in Karaj and Mohammad (Cherag) Afroukhteh in Zahedan.

The campaign also marked the anniversary of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners, an event described by former UN Special Rapporteur Javaid Rehman as a “crime against humanity.” Campaign members are calling on the international community to condition diplomatic and trade relations with the Iranian government on the cessation of executions.
